A higher US dollar value against the local currency reduces your travel budget. You spend less for more. Here are a few suggestions.
a. Mexico
Experience 17 to 18 times more fun for the same money that you spend at home because for every 1 US dollar, you get about 17–18 MXN (Mexican Peso). Mexico is also one of the nearest international destinations as we discussed above, and plenty of flight options makes Mexico flight bookings further affordable.
b. Colombia
High conversion numbers translate into strong buying power and that is what you enjoy in Colombia. For every $1 USD, you get 3,900–4,100 COP (Colombian Peso).
  • Flight time: From Miami: ~3–4 hours; NYC: ~5–6 hours; West Coast: ~7–9 hours
  • Best time: December–March (dry season) or July–August

  • Reasons to go: Strong USD value, diverse landscapes (beaches + mountains), vibrant culture
  • Best places: Cartagena, Medellín, Bogotá, Tayrona National Park
c. Vietnam
Here 1 USD equals 24,000–25,000 VND (Vietnamese Dong). Meet your daily expenses easily and spend lavishly for experiences, flight and, local transportation, and food.
  • Flight time: From Miami, approximately 20 to 24 hours (1–2 stops via Europe or East Asia). From New York City (NYC), 18 to 22 hours (1 stop, via Tokyo, Seoul, or Taipei). From the West Coast (San Francisco / Los Angeles), 15 to 18 hours.

  • Best places: Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An
Portugal and Turkey are also popular budget international travel destinations with the advantage of a strong USD.
3. Choosing the best route
No matter what destination you choose, you need to find the best route to ensure the flight booking is in your budget and travel is not stressful. Destinations or routes with multiple airlines help you find competitive flight deals. The departure and arrival timings must sync with your travel plan. For extended flights, solo or couples often go with a red-eye flight to cut the travel expenses.
4. Pack smartly
  • Try to pack everything in carry-on if no checked-in baggage is allowed for free in your flight itinerary.
  • Mind the baggage weight limit to avoid paying more.
  • Keep basic meds (avoid buying abroad)
5. Save on accommodations
Use hotel aggregator sites like Airbnb and Booking.com to find the best budget hotel rentals. Check for options outside the city center. Don’t chase luxury locations—transport costs will cancel savings. Look for budget hotels with breakfast included. However, do not ignore the property ratings by guests to know the hospitality and customer service experience.
6. Use public transport like a local
  • Europe: trains + metro passes
  • Latin America: buses + Uber
  • Asia: metro passes + trains + scooters
Car rentals abroad often increase costs because you pay for insurance, fuel, parking, and add-ons.
