What started as a local music festival in Austin in 1987- thanks to the founder of The Austin Chronicle, SXSW (South by Southwest) has turned into an annual international gathering covering music, film & TV, technology, business, education, and culture.
The festival bridges the industry professionals and brands from around the world with their fans.
The 2027 edition of SXSW is slated to kick off from March 15, and end on 21, 2027. The venue is downtown Austin and its surroundings.

What if someone asks you to take a stroll of 600 acres (equivalent to downtown Austin). The idea seems stupid. Well, but in the glitz of festive celebration of SXSW, people don’t mind going that far experiencing fun from one quarter to another.
A good daily strategy is: Start your day with downtown panels/pop-ups, have your lunch, and in the afternoon explore screenings or activations, and by evening enjoy music and walk back to your accommodation late at night.
For 2027, SXSW also says complimentary shuttles will serve its Film & TV screening venues for badge holders.

Instead of depending on expensive restaurant menus in downtown Austin, you can count on local foods to really enjoy SXSW as locals do.

SXSW currently lists a 2027 Music wristband at $149 at the early rate, while its Music Badge provides broader access and professional features. Prices can change as registration progresses.
For someone mainly interested in discovering artists and attending music events, the wristband may be worth considering alongside free events rather than automatically purchasing a more expensive all-access credential.

If you are a solo traveler, and want to experience SXSW in a budget, joining the SXSW volunteer program is a noble idea. You receive training emphasized on customer service. There are no perquisites professional qualifications. Enjoy your free time to explore the SXSW footprint, including:
