Honolulu International Airport

Honolulu International Airport is 18 miles (30 km) southwest of Downtown Honolulu, Hawaii. It’s officially named as Daniel K. Inouye International Airport after the U.S. Senator and Medal of Honor recipient Daniel K. Inouye who represented Hawaii from 1963 until his death in 2012.

Ground Transportation to and from the Airport

TheBus, public bus transportation service, operates services connecting the airport with most of the locations of the city. Its services with bus route numbers 19, 20, and 31 have stop on the upper (departure) level of the airport. Routes 19 and 20 connect the airport to Pearlridge Center (20 only), Hickam AFB (19 only), Downtown Honolulu, Ala Moana Center, and Waikiki. Route 31 connects the airport to Tripler Army Medical Center, via Kalihi Transit Center.

Alternatively, you may take bus route number 9, 40, 42, or 51 running on Nimitz Highway, which is within the walking distance of the airport.

Rental car companies and taxi cab operators also facilitate their services. Car rental companies include Advantage, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National.  Registration counters are located in the Baggage Claim area. On airport rental car offices are located on the ground level of the Terminal 2 Parking Garage.
