Best Parade & Historic Spots
The Castro District
Located in central San Francisco, the Castro District is one of San Francisco’s most iconic LGBTQ+ neighborhoods. The site has picturesque rainbow crosswalks, historic LGBTQ+ landmarks, and lively bars, and beyond all – an unmatched community spirit. Go early in the morning for fewer people and better photo opportunities. Be mindful of traffic and keep the crosswalk clear when vehicles or pedestrians need to pass. Allow two to three hours.
Harvey Milk Plaza, Rainbow Honor Walk, Pink Triangle Memorial, and the Castro Theatre are must-see historic attractions. Harvey Milk Plaza is a landmark site associated with LGBTQ+ civil rights leader Harvey Milk. Rainbow Honor Walk has bronze sidewalk plaques honoring LGBTQ+ figures whose work influenced history, culture, politics, and science.
Nearest transportation system: Castro Station, served by Muni Metro
Ferry Building and the Embarcadero
The Ferry Building sits at the foot of Market Street, close to the traditional Pride Parade starting area. It is a historic landmark with a food marketplace, independent vendors, and views of San Francisco Bay. The Embarcadero is the waterfront promenade extending along the eastern side of the city.
Enjoy waterfront views, food vendors, and a walk beside San Francisco Bay. The area is also close to the traditional parade starting point.
Nearest transportation system: BART, Muni Metro, Muni buses, and regional ferries.
Civic Center Plaza
The central location for the main Pride Celebration, with entertainment, community booths, and festival activities. This is the place to prioritize if you want to experience the heart of Pride weekend.
Nearest transit: Civic Center/UN Plaza BART and Muni Metro Station
Golden Gate Bridge
A classic San Francisco sightseeing stop. Visit an accessible viewpoint or walk a section of the bridge if the weather cooperates.
Nearest transportation system: Golden Gate Transit bus system. There is no BART or Muni Metro station directly at the bridge.
Dolores Park
Despite not being the official venue for San Francisco Pride, Dolores Park witnesses a huge gathering during the Pride weekend. Enjoy the relaxing atmosphere with grassy hills and palm trees. Arrive before midday if you want time to find a comfortable spot and explore the area.
Nearest transportation system: Muni Metro J Church light-rail line
Our recommendation: Choose a viewing spot near a transit station rather than trying to follow the parade on foot through dense crowds. Check the official route and access restrictions for your event year.
If San Francisco is an international destination for you, check the flights to the United States page to know the routes, distance, airlines and stopovers.

- Evening: A warm jacket, particularly for outdoor events.
