Lisbon is the capital and the largest city of Portugal. It has been designated as an alpha-level global city because the city serves as the hub of finance, commerce, media, arts, entertainment and education. After Porto, Lisbon is the second city to earn this recognition.
The city is home to 505,526 inhabitants and has an administrative area of 100.05 km2. Lisbon lies in the western Iberian Peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean and the River Tagus. The westernmost portions of its metro area, the Portuguese Riviera, form the westernmost point of Continental Europe, culminating at Cabo da Roca.

March to May and September to October are the best times of the year to visit Lisbon.
