b) Summerfest: More relaxed and expansive
Summerfest feels different from the moment you arrive.
Together with a mix of headliners - Pop, country, rock, hip-hop, R&B, and Latin- Summerfest in Milwaukee lets you enjoy watersports, such as kayaking and paddle-boat rentals, too. Rather than feeling like one giant four-day event, Summerfest gives you more of a music-filled city fair spread across nine days.
The festival is held at Henry Maier Festival Park, a 75-acre space along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Wander from one stage to another. Browse local food stalls, including famous Wisconsin foods such as cheese curds and bratwurst, and socialize with people.
2. Cost: Where Does Your Money Go?
The admission fees are categorized as General Admission (GA), VIP, Platinum, Cabana, etc. However, don't compare only the headline ticket prices or admission fees. The festival budget spreads across airfare, car rentals, hotel rentals, food, and entertainment outside the festival.
a) Lollapalooza
Lollapalooza needs a fixed commitment of four consecutive days. Unless you reduce your trip to fewer days, there is little to no flexibility in terms of travel planning and booking. Because it's in Chicago during a major summer weekend, accommodation can become a significant part of your trip budget.

The official 2027 ticket structure includes single-day general admission, multi-day passes, and a 9-Day Power Pass. The 2026 Power Pass cost $130, while some promotional offers were substantially lower earlier in the sales cycle.
There is another important distinction: American Family Insurance Amphitheater (AFI Amphitheater) shows require separate tickets that are valid for same-day admission to the Summerfest grounds.
